Teaching steps(教学步骤)
1. Leading-in and presentation(呈现新知识) (1)A picture of a yard sale.
T: What’s this? What are people doing in the pictures? S: It’s a yard sale. People are having a yard sale.
(2)The explanation: What’s a yard sale? Why do people have yard sales?
In the US, when people want to get rid of their junk for a little cash, they have yard sales. They put a sign up in their yard, maybe place an ad in the newspaper or on the Internet,

and sell things they no longer use. Often people have yard sales when they are getting ready to move from one place to another.
Sometimes, you can find good stuff at yard sales at a good price. People sell everything from clothes, dishes and books to CDs, furniture and art. (教师把“yard sale” 板书在黑板上)

Show students the picture in 1a.
T: Look at the things at the yard sale. Do you have any of these things at home? How long have you had them?

T: What does he have? How long has he had it? S2: He has…. He has had it since… /for… (教师仍采用重读have had ,提问同位的方法来操练对话)

B: Because I don’t read it anymore. A: How much is it?
B: You can have it for 75 cents.

5. Work on 2a, 2b (1) Leading-in
T: Do you have some old things that you don’t use anymore?S: Yes.

(2) T: Let’s listen to the conversation between Amy and her mother.
Have Ss listen and check the things Amy’s family are giving away and circle the things they are keeping.

7. Work on 2d (1) Leading-in.
T: Who will Amy give away the things to? Let’s read the conversation in 2d. (2) T: Read the conversation, and answer the following questions.
Where are the two people talking? What does Amy want to do there? What did Amy take there?
(3) T: Read the conversation again and underline the new words and expressions, and then
discuss them with your classmates. (4) T: Role-play the conversation.
Remind Ss to understand the context/setting of the conversation between Linda and Amy.

Have them pay attention to the appropriate use of tone when they role-play the conversation.
