About Learning Buddies

Learning Buddies is an education program for K-5 students at the Beacon Hill.Columbia, Douglass-Truth.NewHolly and West Seattle Library branches(分馆).Teen volunteers(志愿者) and kids read together, learn math and play educational games with support from librarians.

If you are a high school student who enjoys math, reading and helping kids succeed in school, please consider volunteering as a Learning Buddy.You will get service learning experience and earn(获得) munity service hours for school.

Learning Buddies teaches kids once a week.Volunteer chances are offered at the following Library branches, October through December and March through May.

High school students must be at least 14 years old and live close to a Library branch that offers the Learning Buddies program.

You can ask for a volunteer application(申请书) and attend an interview at one of the following Library branches at least one month before the fall or spring Learning Buddies series.

I've always been interested in puters and technology, and I made a few apps(应用程序) for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.I'd like to share a couple with you today.My first app is “Earth Fortune”.My favorite and most successful app is “Bustin Jieber”-which is a Justin Bieber whack-a-mole(打地鼠游戏).I created it because a lot of people at school disliked the pop star a little bit, so I decided to make the app.I released(发布) it on December 21,2010.

A lot of people asked me, how did I make these? A lot of times it's because the person who asked the question wants to make an app also.Where do you go to find out how to make an app? Well, this is how I got close to it, and this is what I did.

First of all, I'd already been programming in many programming languages to get the basics down, such as Python, C, Java, etc.And then Apple released the iPhone with the software development kit(软件开发工具包)—a set of tools for creating and programming an iPhone app.This opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me, and after playing with the kit a little bit, I made a couple of test apps.I persuaded(劝说) my parents to pay 99 dollars to be able to put my apps on the App Store.They agreed, and now I have apps on the App Store.

I've gotten a lot of creative ideas from Steve Jobs, and I've started an app club at school with the help of my teacher.Any student at my school can e and learn how to design an app.

I'd like to finish up by saying what I'd like to do in the future.I'm working with a third party pany to make an app.My next goal is to get into Android programming and development, continue my app club, and find other ways for students to share knowledge with others.
