Non-contact sensors A, B, C at the turbine shaft detect the speed, transmitting a corresponding pulse frequency to the inputs of the E15 electronics. Its input sections (E1518) make it available, from each channel, to the periphery for other use. Isolated, without reaction to the system, and not affected by the test procedure. For instance, to a governor

system, or to a remote digital speed indicator. Further, the input modules permanently monitor the sensor circuit, and check for synchronism to the neighbor channels. Failures are signalized. The speed monitoring function continues, now with increased intensity 1of2 .

Monitors E1555: the central section within each channel: These modules include measurement, alarm triggering, and conversion to analog. Two setpoint alarms are provided, SP1 and SP2, on every E1555. Both individually

programmable in all aspects as setpoint level, hysteresis, starting and failure condition. Both setpoint signals address one each input of the voter module E1564. For safety reasons, two each E1564 voters are assigned to the overspeed signal SP1 (thus providing two separate shut-down paths). One voter module serves the SP2 alarm.

Each of the E1555 modules further provides an analog signal. All of the three enter one voter E1565. This module

selects the highest one of its input signals to transmit it to the periphery – mostly a speed governor. This again regards the safety aspect.

Applications with own external voting system, will be served by an E15 version, which provides the three original signals separately from each channel.

The independent test section includes the test generator module E1593, and the selector E1514. The test generator E1593 supplies a test frequency, representing a turbine speed. Fine adjustable by push-botton starting at a

programmable preset. The E1514 module switches this signal by button selection to the input of channel A,B,C, one after the other, to check it from the input to the output. The other channels continue their monitoring duty. The operator observes the response of the channel under test.

To detect a reverse motion of the machine, a sensor of series A5S3 is installed (“C” in the above diagram.). The

E124.1S2 module uses its direction signal, to operate a “reverse motion” alarm contact. Also this function is available with redundancy, using the A5S3.. sensors at the other positions, too.
