【摘要】Translation is a cross-language and cross-culture communicative activity which is deeply affected by context. Special attention should be paid to the translation of literature works because not only the language, but also the author’s style, features and characteristics of the original text should be reproduced. Moreover, English and Chinese are descendants of different language families, resulting in different language structures and organizations. Therefore, in translation practice, translators should be faithful to the original text, and deal with target language with flexibility, instead of sticking to the original structure. This paper first briefly introduces some features of language and translation;then it elaborates the concept of context, its impact on translation and some characteristics of Chinese and English language;final y, the paper discuss in two parts, taking Vanity Fair translated by Yang Bi as an example, in which the former part analyzes the critical impact of context on understanding of the original text and roughly il ustrates two kinds of language translation skil s, namely, extension and idioms employed in Chinese language.
