Last winter, Daisy went to stay with a school friend. One afternoon she was alone in the house. There was nothing interesting on TV and it was cold and rainy outside. So instead of reading her book, she looked around for some jobs.

There was a bag of old clothes by the front door. “Ah! That must be the rubbish.” So she put it in the trash-bin* outside. Then she went to clean the dresser. She saw a small plastic box with some water in it. She emptied the water and put it away.

There were a few dirty cups on the kitchen table. “Aha,” she thought, “I’ll wash those.” She found a bowl with some grey water in it. She emptied it and washed up the cups. She was very pleased with her

eye-recognition program. The program works because everyone's eyes are different, so in the future you won't have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or take money out of a bank. You'll just have to look at the machine and it will be able to tell who you are.

The eye-recognition program has already been tested in shops and banks in the USA, Britain, Spain, Italy and Turkey. Soon this technology will take the place of all other ways of finding out who people are.

Scientists are also working on other systems. Machines will soon be able to know you from the shape of your face or hand or even your smell. We already have machines that can recognize you from your voice or the mark made by your finger. In some modern families, people can already open the doors and windows by fingers or voice instead of keys.

Eye-recognition is better than other kinds of programs because your eyes don't change as you get older, and don't get dirty like hands or fingers, and even twins have different eyes. That’s why the eye-recognition program can be up to 94% correct, depending on how good the technology is. The other programs may only be 51% correct at present. In Britain, 91% of people who had tried it said that they liked the idea of eye-recognition.

In the future your computer or car will be looking at you in the eye. So smile! ( ▲ )48.The eye-recognition program can tell _______.

Hey! We're growing up!

You are a good student. However, suddenly one day you become a different person: angry and lazy? Perhaps it's because you are at the rebellious * time of puberty*. Let's listen to some Teens readers' stories of rebellion.

Guo Quanzhi, 14, Hefei: In Junior 2, I just wouldn't listen to adults, especially my parents. I'd watch TV for a long time. When my parents asked me to do homework, I'd read novels. I often had fights with them over little problems. In school, I was distracted * in class. I felt low. I wrote diaries and sometimes I cried.

Xia Yuanzhong, 14, Beijing: My rebellious time came when I entered the first year in middle school. I tried to be different and disagreed with anyone at any time. For example, once the Chinese teacher told us to write a composition with the topic, “Don't be a fence-sitter*.” I, however, wrote a whole article trying to say how it was good to be a fence-sitter.

Leng Jingze, 14, Tianjin: When I was a sixth-grader in primary school, I suddenly began to feel bored and became a lazy person. I didn't finish homework. I didn't want to get up in the morning. I was late for school all the time. I didn't want to go out. I just wanted to read magazines and cartoons at home.

Wang Zeyu, 15, Changchun: I became impatient after I entered Junior 3. Maybe I collapsed * a little
